The Annual Green Note Promotions Party in Historic Bronzeville, Chicago

Well, during my extended tour back home I got a chance to attend the Annual Green Note Promotions party hosted by Raymond Ramzy & Craig Elliott. . .Yeah, I literally make an effort to attend this event every year (usually the last Saturday of July) and as usual, its always packed to capacity with plenty of great food, beverages and of course music. And as usual after leaving Venetian Night at Grant Park, I trek back south to avoid mayhem, traffic speeding law enforcement and angry friends waiting for me to pick them up or meet at the party. I finally arrive as usual navigating my way though a congested mob. Its so much going on the last Saturday of July in Chicago they should appoint it a new holiday (July 26-party til you drop day) ha ha ha. . .

I mean I literally have to be home on the weekends of July 4th, 26th and Labor day weekend. Yeah ! no exceptions. . .Now what makes this event so popular, is the guest Dj's, and the feel of a good ole fashion backyard jam (no cover, no dress code, no velvet rope policy) sort of reminiscent of the old school basement house parties (ahhh. . .back in the day) remember the one light bulb (it was either red or blue) you had one record player playing the 33's and 45's, Bid whist games in the corner, BYOB and people just sitting on the front (or back) porch just having great conversation. Jean Claude Van Damn ! we need to bring back those type of parties. Once I got inside of course I got a heavy dose of music supplied by Andre Hatchett and Mark Fuller (pictured left). Another thought of why I like this event is a chance to see old friends again. I always wanted to know how people are doing now, and perhaps make some connections here and there. People have evolved over the years and become professionals in their own right, its just quite natural that we just break bread and stay in touch. I mean these photos only tell a brief story, you can just park in the empty lots near the party and it was a party outside of a party. Parking lot pimpin. . .On a final note, I hate the Attic Foundation Summer monthly event was cancelled but I wanted to wish a congratulations to Wynell to the birth of her child. I heard through the grapevine at the last minute from reliable sources that she is doing well. Best wishes and I look forward to the event on Labor Day weekend.
Special shout out to my dawg Sadar (below), one of the deepest brothas on the one's and two's. Look for "Soul in the Hole" at a venue near you. While I was leaving this party I gotta admit thinking about this on the way home, there has never been a incident of violence at this event every year. I believe deep down in my soul that music is the medicine of the masses. Play a great song, people will let you know. Dancing the night away, people never forget that, Having a great time . ..Priceless
